Ferdinand Christian Ruehrmund's leather pants, ca. 1840. He emigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1825, when he was 15, and had been an apprentice book binder. His mother died on the voyage. He settled in Caledonia, Morrow County, Ohio, and was married to Mary Loebrick, also a German immigrant, in 1849. There is more genealogical information on him available.
