An 18th century quilted bed valence, the front of copper plate printed toile, madder-mordant, with scenes from the myth of Apollo. The material is probably English, last quarter of the 18th century. A similar textile printed with scenes from the Odyssey is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, illustrated in F. Montgomery's PRINTED TEXTILES. The curtain has a plain linen backing, is quilted and stuffed with cotton, and has a cut red cotton binding of the same period. It is 74" (188 cm) long by 28" (70.1 cm) wide. It was found in Maine.
